Success Ladder Benchmark Instructions

Note: The Success Ladder Benchmark requires a simple organization profile prior to starting the benchmark. The idea is to create a company profile and run any project under that profile.  In addition, you can create multiple organization profiles. Therefore, you can have many profiles and many benchmarks. Go here to create a new profile: https://www.standishgroup.com/prb/organizations.

These are the simple steps to create a new Success Ladder Benchmark. The Standish Success Ladder Benchmark provides a rough order of magnitude estimate.

Step 1: Click on the Success Ladder Benchmark icon

Step 2: Click on New Ladder benchmark

Step 3: Answer the 4 questions for Rung 1.

Rung 1 is the base actuary. If you click on create, the results will show your chances of success or failure based on these 2 questions. You can do this anytime during the process.

1) What is the project type?

2) What is the method of delivery for the project?

However, if you click create and continue on to Rung 2 you can modify the results by size.

Step 4: Rung 2 is the size modifier. The report shows how size changes your chances of success. Size is based on the delivery team’s labor content and no other budget items. The size range is from small to grand. You can use our Phorsight tool to aid in selecting the right size of your project. If you click on create the results, you will see your chances of success or failure based on adding size to your actuary.  If you click create and continue to Rung 3 you can modify the results by complexity.

Step 5: Rung 3 is the complexity modifier. The report shows how complexity modifies the size and actuary results. The complexity range is from very complex to very easy.  You can use Phorsight to aid in selecting the right complexity for your project. Now you can either modify your case or generate your report.

Step 6: Rung 4 is The Good Place Behavior Modification. If you have done the good place appraisal you can use that information to select your maturity level. If not, you will have to estimate your maturity level.  For more accurate results, take Good Place Appraisal.

Step 7: Rung 5 is The Good Team Behavior Modification. If you have done the good team appraisal you can use that information to select your maturity level. If not, you will have to guess. For more accurate results, take The Good Team Appraisal.

Step 8: Rung 6 is The Good Sponsor Behavior Modification. If you have done the good sponsor appraisal you can use that information to select your maturity level. If not, you will have to guess. For more accurate results, take The Good Sponsor Appraisal
